Course Description

Representing Clients in the Coroner’s Court: Enhancing Your Advocacy – Strategies and Pitfalls is a professionally curated one-day workshop designed to elevate advocacy standards within the unique setting of the Coroner’s Court. This course is ideal for barristers, solicitors, in-house legal teams, and coroners themselves — anyone engaged in managing or navigating inquests.

Delivered by leading experts in the field, including Dr Bridget Dolan KC and Professor Chris Dorries OBE, the programme provides participants with the tools to approach inquest advocacy with greater clarity, confidence, and precision. The sessions blend practical guidance with real-world examples, offering insight into both successful and problematic advocacy strategies, as well as critical procedural nuances.

The workshop covers key themes such as understanding coronial causation, effective case theory development, witness handling techniques, and submission structuring. A significant portion of the day is dedicated to the role of Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights in inquests — an essential area of understanding for complex or state-related deaths.

Participants will also benefit from the interactive Q&A and round-up discussion, where they can engage directly with the faculty, reflect on the day's learnings, and discuss challenges from their own practice.
