This one-day course, held at the Institute of Medical Sciences, The University of Greater Manchester Medical School.

Course Description

Several exercises have been devised so that Surgical Trainees, Advance Nurse Practitioners and Consultants in Plastic, ENT and Maxillofacial Surgery can complete a variety of facial soft tissue surgery simulations based on the more common skin flap procedures encountered.

Objectives:

• Understand the Physiology of ageing and wound healing
• Enhanced suturing skills and techniques 
• How to design and raise the most common local skin flaps

Delegates will be working individually on pig heads covering the following:
 
Educational aims:
Gain experience by simulating:

• Advancement and Transposition Flaps
• Rhomboid Flap, Bilobed Flap, Rotation Flap
• V-Y Flaps

The course provides:

• Instruction in the use of instrumentation
• Physiology of skin healing, ageing and aesthetic lines of the face.
• “Hands-on” practical anatomical and surgical skills experience
