Course Information

CFAM Short Course Image
This IoM3 approved interactive CPD day is designed for those looking to explore the best 3D printing options for their own products, prototypes, or concepts. Attendees are encouraged to bring a CAD file, physical object, or design idea, which we'll use as a starting point for
personalised discussion and technical exploration. We will walk through material choices, process selection (FDM, SLA, SLS, metal AM, etc.), print orientation, support strategies, and post-processing considerations. This is a hands-on session combining real-world problem solving with expert insight into advanced manufacturing technologies.

Course Description
Additive Manufacturing for Real-World Applications
• Duration & Level: 1 day, intermediate
• Format: Lectures, facility tours, group discussions, and slicing software workshops
• Assessment: Informal
Course Description
This interactive workshop is designed for professionals seeking to apply AM to their own parts or designs. Participants are encouraged to bring a CAD file, prototype, or design idea for tailored feedback. The course covers process selection (polymer and metal), orientation, supports, post-processing, and print planning. Combining theory with practice, it provides immediate, context-specific insights into how AM can be integrated into real product development.
Learning Objectives
• LO1: Compare major AM processes (FDM, SLA, SLS, SLM) in terms of material, cost, speed, and suitability.
• LO2: Apply AM design principles to real parts, including process selection and build preparation.
• LO3: Assess how AM workflows can be integrated into prototyping and production strategies.
