CFAM Short Course Image

This IoM3 approved CPD course examines how traditional manufacturing methods can be combined with digital technologies to enhance efficiency, increase flexibility, and improve product quality across a range of production settings. Through live demonstrations and interactive discussions, participants will explore how to integrate CNC machining, casting, and forming with AM, advanced CAD tools, and inspection techniques. Focusing on real-world applications, the course guides participants through process selection and multi-process strategies, showing when to use each method and how to maximise the benefits of combined approaches in modern manufacturing.

Course Description
This CPD course examines how traditional manufacturing methods can be combined with digital technologies to enhance efficiency, flexibility, and product quality. Participants will explore the integration of CNC machining, casting, and forming with AM, advanced CAD, and inspection tools. Through real-world case studies, demonstrations, and facility tours, the course highlights hybrid workflows and multi-process strategies for modern production.
Learning Objectives
• LO1: Compare traditional and advanced processes (CNC, casting, forming, AM) in terms of cost, accuracy, and scalability.
• LO2: Evaluate hybrid workflows and identify when to combine conventional and digital methods.
• LO3: Analyse case studies to understand integrated workflows from design to post-processing.
• LO4: Apply design considerations including tolerancing, surface finish, and fixturing to hybrid manufacturing.
