Additive Manufacturing Technologies Overview

This IoM3 approved CPD course offers an introduction to core additive manufacturing (AM) technologies and their practical value in modern business and production environments. Beginning with material selection and application potential, the course demonstrated how different AM processes use polymers, metals and composites to meet a range of design and performance needs. Participants will gain hands-on exposure to AM equipment and learn the fundamental principles that underpin each process. The course covers the anatomy of major AM machines, including FDM, SLS, SLA, and metal AM systems, and explores the full workflow from design to finished part. With real-world case studies and a focus on industrial relevance, it provides practical tools for understanding process capabilities and identifying where AM can deliver measurable benefits. No prior technical experience is required.
